For many Canadian businesses, access to capital is the main reason that limits their growth. If you talk to many startups they are painfully aware of the Valley of Death, the period of negative cash flow from product launch to when the company starts to make money.
According to a Gompers and Lerner study 1, the challenge is very real, with 90% of new ventures that don't attract investors failing within the first three years.
Many of the companies that raise with us aren't yet cash flow positive. There is a year or two, sometimes but rarely more, when the company is not making money.
As investors, we back companies we love and believe in, in the product or service, and the team that they can and will deliver. In those same financial forecasts we often see exceptional growth, and that is what we are all looking for, that special one, that will offset the companies that don’t make it through or don’t deliver as expected.
This is where FrontFundr comes in, often before the Angel Investors and VCs, to open up investing to manageable amounts of investment, to show our love to great Canadian companies and help them over the Valley of Death. Here at FrontFundr, we know we are at the heart of connecting companies and Canadians, this Valentine’s day show your love, invest in Canadian business.
If you missed out on last week’s webinar, when Peter-Paul and Will presented the investor deck and answered questions around investing in FrontFundr, then you can watch it here. Please share the link with your friends who may be interested in investing in FrontFundr too.
Let’s show our love of Canadian Businesses, this Valentine’s and every day.
